[xj40] Brake sphere, 94MY

Hi -
I’m getting ready to swap the accumulator sphere on my car
with a spare part - however I have no experience with the
ABS braking system other than the normal pad/caliper stuff
and fluid changes …

Do I have to depressurize the system (how?) before removing
the sphere? Will a quantity of brake fluid spurt out when
the sphere comes off?

thanks guys

cluelessly,

Larry–

Just leave the ignition key OFF and pump the pedal until it
is ROCK HARD and then pump for a while after to get all the
pressure bled-off.

Unscrew the accumulator and catch the fluid drips with a rag
wrapped around the base of the old one. Install the new one.

I usually use some round jaw ‘pinch-off’ pliers on the
rubber brake fluid supply hose to keep the leak from the
reservoir down to a minimum. Work quickly if the drip is
more than expected.

I use an Allen wrench AND a large jaw pliers ‘in-tandem’ to
loosen the sphere.

I did not have my xjs when this last was posted , but it looks like issues surrounding
Brake spheres is still being discussed.
UK suppliers like sng for this product are approx £230 .
However I recently ordered this item from GM parts giant in Fontana Ca.
I was approx £125 inc shipping
Part code ref 25676065

What was the part number, what year jag, and how much in usd?

If you look at their website Gmpartsgiant.com the product code is 25676065 I think that
Its about 90 USD.
After much checking into the suitability re thread size etc etc this item was recommended,
It was originally used on the Cadillac Seville to name but one.

BTW . looking at the original header for this post , I note that it has an xj40 enquiry.
I saw it on an XJS post and indeed that is the vehicle I have .
If you do have the xj40 I would suggest that you check that the xjs accumulator sphere
Is the same as the xjs , at least then you’ll have a supplier in the US.
