[xj40] Bumper change

If anybody know please tell me, if it’s possible to put a
later model xj6-8 bumper on xj40.I saw pictures of an xj40
with a bumper that looks like came from x300.
I think it looks same only turning lights are different.
Take a look:

and

And also if anybody know about any body kits or body
modifications for xj40 please tell me.
Thanks.–

Hi

It is possible, but not straight forward, to fit an x300 bumper to
an xj40. The part that joins the wheel arch is different on each
model and either the bumper/arch will need some modification. I am
not sure if the bumper mounts are in a different position or not.

I was also researching a while back the availability of xj40
bodykits and found that the justjags version (your link) are now
not being sold (don’t know why they still advertise them), Jaguar
Sport/TWR are no longer trading, Arden in germany don’t sell them
anymore, Lynx don’t appear to be trading any longer at least I cant
find them on either yellow pages or companies house

However, QCR Motors in Nuneaton, England, are I understand the
original manufacturer of the body kit for Jaguar Sports Ltd and I
have spoken to the owner who confirmed he still had the moulds and
would still supply the kits with a two-three week delivery timescale
(guess he makes each kit to order now)

http://www.cix.co.uk/~qcrmotors/

I haven’t seen the kit as yet, his secretary promised to post me a
picture of the kit but it never arrived, and I got side tracked
with other things that I didn’t chase her for it.

IIRC the prices were;
Front bumper/spoiler - 275
Rear bumper/spoiler - 250
Side Skirts (pair) - 150
Boot infill - 50

They also say on their website that they have genuine Jaguar Sport
tuning parts still for sale.

I have no connection or had any dealings with this co. they just
happen to be the only supplier I could find.–

Far out, Chris! How on EARTH did you find this info?!? I have a
split, cracked and dented front spoiler and a split rear spoiler on
my 88 XJR and have resolved to getting both repaired, as I couldn’t
find anywhere to get new ones. I’d even asked a fibre glass shop
locally if they were able to take a mould from the current ones and
re-manufacture them for me. You don’t want to know what they quoted
me for doing that…

Maybe it’ll be cheaper to have these guys supply me with new ones.
I’m just waiting on my quote from the body shop (loads of other
touching-up and dent/ding removal jobs, too)–

My guess would be around 5,000 for the moulds…

One other thing - if you want the JustJags type kit, having done some
visual comparisons, the XJ40 JustJags bumpers are actually based on the
early X300 bumpers. The only difference seems to be that they made the
indicator cut-outs different to make them fit the XJ40 type ones.

But with a bit of time/effort, you could just make the X300 bumper fit,
and use the X300 indicators. The downside is that you are looking at
about 650 per bumper, plus whatever work is required to make them fit
with the XJ40 chromes and indicators.

Sadly, that’ll probably come to about 40% of what you were likely to be
quoted for the moulds…

I have had to go this route recently when I had to replace my front
JustJags bumper. If you have the JustJags kit, DO NOT have a shunt. You
will be in for a whole world of pain. I learnt that the hard way…

Thank you all guys. I spoke to one of the guys from the
JustJags, and he told me that he would sell me an original
x300 bumper for $200 US. My friend from local Bodyshop told
me that he would fit, prep and spray it for me for around
another $200.
And I also want to get Side Skirts from your link.
What do you think?–

My guess is that side skirts will only work visually with both
front and rear wrap around spoilers/x300 bumpers?

What have you at the rear?–

Note that the $200 price for the X300 bumper is most likely going to be
for a second hand one that came off a broken up car. The new one from
Jaguar will set you back over $1,000.

If you’re getting the genuine X300 bumper, you will still probably end
up using the XJ40 chrome, though. X300 has a sufficiently different
shape that the X300 chrome won’t fit properly around the wings.

JustJags still sell the side skirts and the spoiler, as far as I am
aware. The side skirts are quite a useful item because last I checked,
there was no way to get new XJ40 sills, original or reproduction ones.
That means that the only way to fix them is to weld sills up as best as
you can without having the right shape panel, and then just put
fiberglass side skirts over it. The JJ side skirts are also subtle
enough that you wouldn’t notice the difference unless you know about it.

Not true. I’ve had just the side skirts fitted to one of my cars when I
had the sills welded, and they are very, very subtle. Unless you know
that they are there, you won’t notice them. They really don’t look out
of place.

OTOH, I suspect that not having them when you have X300 shape bumpers
would be more noticeable…
