[xj40] Change bulbs (illumination)of driver instrument panel?

First… I’m not so good in technical English, so please understand
me !

How can I quickly change the bulbs (illumination) of the driver
instrument panel, because as I looked, I didn’t find a way to the
back of the instrument panel !
The only light that works is from Battery Condition Indicator, I
need to change the rest of bulbs from panel !

Furthermore… in my country there is no Jag dealer or Jag
mechanic !

So, please help.

THANKS !–

Panait,

Which model and year of car do you need the bulbs for?–

Panait,

This is a brief edited extract from the Jaguar Service Manual for
the '90 cars. [I suggest that you obtain one of these in the JDHT CD-ROM format - details of how to do that are shown on the link at the top of the XJ40 Forum index page]

  • Disconnect battery
  • Remove drivers side dash liner (knee bolster)
  • Fully extend steering wheel to rearmost position
  • Remove instrument pack assembly securing screws (from below)
  • Disconnect block electrical connector from rear of pack.
  • Remove instrument pack
  • Place pack face down on bench (protect cowl / glass with cloth)
  • Remove appropriate bulb(s) - twist one-eigth turn anti-clockwise

Note:-
For access to lower pack bulbs, release electronics pack clips and
pivot the pack upwards.

Panait, isn’t it rather unusual for all the instrument pack bulbs
to fail at the same time? Shouldn’t you be looking for some other
reason for them not illuminating?

Perhaps someone else on the list can suggest where you should look
for this fault.–

Thank you for your advice, it helps !

About this failure… The bulbs didn’t failed all at once, they
failed in 2 years, one at a time.
But now failed the last one & is the moment to do something !–
