[xj40] Eclipse

Was it really a Jag?

I saw a car fly around the corner, going the opposite way. All I
saw was the rear end and I could swear it said, Jaguar. To me it
looked like the rear of a Mitsi Eclipse. Say it’s not so!–

Could it be a test car of the new XF??? I saw a post in the pub
that linked to a website with some photos of the rear end of the XF
during tests.

Go to the pub and check the pictures. If it was a XF, tell us how
the front end looked ;)–

Well, I read the
‘‘leftlane’’ piece on the new XF.

For what It’s worth here is my take on the car.
As far as I can see there is no visual clue that says ‘‘Jaguar’’.
This puts it right in step with most of the other ‘‘generic’’ cars
being produced today.

The designers comparing it to the Series 1 XJ was pretty funny.

Just a glimps of an ‘‘A’’, or ‘‘C’’ piller or a glance at a tail light
on any early XJ (or a XJ40 for that matter) is enough to identify
it as a ‘‘JAG’’.

The XF will probably turn out to be a nice enough ‘‘car’’, But it is
sadly lacking in character. (IMHO)–

Thats the problem with current european pedestrrian protection
normatives: high front bumpers. US normatives also take place in
the rear end of the car, making it high also. Ian Callum has done
all what was possible with current law limitations; sad but true :frowning:

But the car looks by far better than any other car: lexus, Audi,
BMW, Mercedes, etc.

The days of low profile sexy cars like our XJ40s are gone… Will
it make our cars become classic sooner??? ;)–
