[xj40] Fog light wiring and Bulb failure warning...related?

Hello friends,

I still have not been able to master the bulf failure warning. I
have noticed I have a switch for fog lights but do not actually
have any. Doesn’t the wiring need to ground properly and feedback
the proper voltage in order to shut that DAMN FLASHING ALERT OFF
once and for all or at least untill there actually is a problem? At
this point I am considering a ouija board.–

I had a similar issue with a 1991 XJ6 VDP about two years ago.
After checking all other bulbs and lamp modules, It DID turn out
to be missing front fog lights. On my car there was a plug on
either side of the front end. To confirm it was this problem I put
a piece of wire in the plug to act like a bulb and create a
circuit it worked!.just remember to KEEP your fog lights off or
not only do you pop fuses but you also have no headlights.–

Somewhere in the archives is the correct value of resistor to use.

My adapter plugs (that I took out to install fog lights) have a
1000 ohm resister in them to fool the bulb fail monitor.

Good information.
I dont think now that that is the problem anyway I dont see any
plug adaptors for fog lights and yes, idiotically the switch is for
the rear fogs. I pulled all the bulbs yesterdaty and inspected
them once again. I did find some corrosion on a few that are
getting exposed to moisture but nothing serious. So I steel wooled
and dielectic greased everything again. It didnt, of course
silence the warning, but it was a nice day here in PA. I did
however notice a slight problem with the right turn signal
temporary after fiddling with the bulbs, It did not flash for a few
seconds and then suddenly clicked on and worked properly in all
instances after that. Now I have had the module out on that side
and did attempt to resouder everything. I’m going to take that out
and try again. Also does anyone have a brand and model number for
the various side lights, turnlights, etc.? -just to make sure I am
not using a wrong voltage bulb somewhere. I havent been able to
discover that info in my research.–

Just a little puzzled by your comment ‘‘I don’t see any
plug adaptors for fog lights and yes, idiotically the switch

Even if you don’t have a switch for the front fogs, you will
still have the connectors under the front bumper intended
for thr front fog lamps - and if they are not fitted, you
should have a ‘Resistive plug’ # DBC11578 in each connector
to fool the BFM. Check for black two-pin plugs on Red/orange
and Black wires tied up somewhere in that region - and that
they have those resistive plugs fitted.–
