[xj40] FUSE BOX FAILURE CONT

Hi Guys,

Allright, we are we?
I guess I got an answer to my question about the fuses from BrianN:
''HOWEVER, in the ‘93 / ‘94 model circuit diagrams the fuses B1 in
the left and right fuse boxes are shown as 30 Amp! :-)’’
And about the windows; they are not sluggish nor slowing down, they
are dead stuck up. The operation died out gradually, meaning one
day working, another not = electrical failure… There is no water
from rusty fenderwells (come on guys, do we have rust on our
Jaguars?) and the fuse box is bone dry. Fuses are OK, switchpack is
OK and window motors are OK. Am I working around the problem?
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE FUSE PANEL?

Regards,

Jukka–

What makes you think that there is something wrong with the
fuse panel?

If you remove fuse B1 do you measure 12 volts out of one
side of the fuse socket? If you do, replace that fuse and
see if you get that same 12 volts on the Brown/black wire at
pin 5 of the 12-way white connector in the right side front
passenger door for the power window. Similarly, from the
same fuse you should get 12 volts on the Brown/slate wire in
pin 5 at the 12-way white connector in the rear right
passenger door.–

Hi Bryan,

Are we missing something over here? My mechanic jumped the bad
circuit on the BACK of the open right hand side fuse box and tested
both of the right side window motors OK. I just do not understand
why the current is not going trough the panel, if the fuse panel is
just a damn plastic box with metal prongs holding the fuses and the
fuses are OK? WHAT PREVENTS THE CURRENT TO PASS THE PANEL?

Regards,

Jukka–

Jukka,

It was not unusual on the fuse boxes of the early cars for a
bad solder joint within the box to prevent current flowing
through the fuse and out to whatever that fuse serves. I
thought that problem had been solved by better quality
control (thanks Ford!) on the electrics of later cars like
yours - but perhaps you have a rogue bad one?

As I asked before :-

''If you remove fuse B1 do you measure 12 volts out of one
side of the fuse socket? ‘’

If battery power is getting in to the back of the box, but
not getting through to the fuse socket, I guess it must be a
dry solder joint between the two.–
