[xj40] Instaling new " O" rings on Oil Cooler tubes, Speed control etc

The external oil cooler was eliminated on later models. A by-pass
loop was installed in the same location as the hose adapter. I
presume that the external cooler was determined to be an overkill.
Depending upon how complicated and expensive re-sealing the hoses
becomes, you may want to eliminate it all by installing the loop.
One nut and you are done.–

Any suggestions or cautions on this procedure? One of the oil
cooler tubes {probably the out going} is leaking. The only leak I
have. I thought I might just tighten the nut first and see if this
stops the leak. This is my first JAG XJ6 '89 although I have
restored {'34 Rolls-Bentley} and rebuilt ‘‘other’’ motors earlier.
Also, does the entire air filter case move away from the intake
vent to remove the filter? Speed control doesn’t work, no lights
turning on switch…any tips on diagnostics?

It’s not even necessary to install ‘the loop’ you describe.
For that you would need to obtain the necessary parts from
Jaguar that they fitted to some of the later models. If
anyone wants to get rid of the oil cooler, all that is
required is to remove the oil cooler adaptor from between
the oil filter head and the block and using shorter bolts,
merely bolt the oil filter head directly to the block. Cheap
and simple as described in the factory Service Manual.–
