[xj40] Interior lights stays on while driving

Hi there!

Im quite new on this, just bought my 88 XJ 40 2 weeks ago, but
Ive allready had great help from this great forum.

Got a problem though, that im not quite sure how to fix.
When engine is running, if I get out of car, then back in again,
and start driving, the interior lights stays on for 10-15 sec.
Rather annoying when its dark outside.
When repairing the seat-heater, I came across what looked like some
sort of pressure-plate switch in the seat. could this be the problem
if not working, or should I look elsewhere?

In advance, thankyou for any reply.–

That’s very odd. On my car, the interior lights only remain on for
10 - 15 seconds after I’ve closed the drivers’s door if the cars’
sidelights are on AND the engine is switched off BUT the keys are
in the ignition [in any position (O), (I), or (II)]. As soon as I
turn the ignition key to start the engine, the interior lights go
off and will only come on again, but not remain on, if I later open
and close the door with the engine running (whether I vacate the
seat in the process or not).

Perhaps the lighting logic device in your car has been wrongly
programmed (or Jaguar discovered this annoying feature of the early
cars and modified the logic box for the '90 / '91 cars)

I think that the pressure switch you found is the one which signals
that you or your front seat passenger are seated and if, without
your seat belt fastened, it throws up a flashing warning on the
dash.–

Hi
I have an 88 does the same thing, I just flick the light switch (I
think its the #2 switch) on the ski slope on and off and the lights
go off as soon as I flick the switch off. Doesnt worry me in the
