[xj40] Mystery part?

Hi, looks like I need one of these breather hoses
…however, I can find no reference to it anywhere! It only
appears on late cars with the oil filler mounted on the cam
cover - anyone have an idea what the part number is?

goes to the valve cover, and not the oil filler tube which I
believe has been eliminated on your car.–

Thanks for the attempts/help there guys but it isn’t any of
those.

On the 94, the skinny part of the hose connects directly to
the intake manifold at a nipple and held in place with a
spring clip. Awkward to fit a clamp down there, pretty small
bore hose, almost vacuum hose bore with a much thicker casing.

Bryan - The hose that you describe could possibly be
modified, the non-cam cover end could be cut I suppose, (if
the diameters are similar) but really what I’d like to do is
find the right part!!

I thought about calling the local Jag dealer, and I may try
them - but wouldn’t they just use the same parts
diagrams/numbers as the JEPC catalog I have on my computer?
(which uses the same diagrams and part numbers/classes as
the JHT site btw)

I believe they dumped the microfiche several years ago?

It is a little frustrating dealing with 94MY bits and pieces

  • one time, JHT refused to sell me 13 cam cover hold-down
    screws because their catalog INSISTED there were only 7!!!

I seem to recall from way back in my Jaguar warranty days
that in this era of XK40 there was an issue with the
throttle body butterfly getting clogged up with crud from
the breather hose. Jaguar USA’s solution, via a bulletin,
was to launch a kit which was a plastic capsule separator
and a hose to a new Y pipe dipstick tube so that oil residue
could drain back to the crankcase before it was sucked into
the intake resulting in sticky throttle response which was
most noticeable just as one opened the throttle from idle.
It is possible that parts books do not show this after
production modification but I am not sure exactly what year
cars this applied to.–

From what I’ve read, guys that bothered with it were less
than enthusiastic about the results. Pretty much stuck with
mucking out the 40’s intake from time to time if you do
short runs in colder climes.

I had the sticky throttle issue on my 1990 car in the first
few years of ownership back in 1991-93 and jury rigged the
modification on my car even though it actually applied to
later model years. Somehow I have not had a sticky throttle
since then so it must have helped the situation.–
