[xj40] One headlight problem

In reply to a message from Zigmund sent Thu 24 Jan 2013:

I wonder if your problem is similar to one I experienced
(albeit with a high beam but the principle is the same).

I found a corroded feed from the fuse for that lamp to the
BFM - see these pictures :-

Here’s a link to the thread on that subject ;-

In your case, the power for the right headlamp low beam is
on a Brown/pink wire from fuse #14 in the right side fuse box.

First of all, with the fuse removed, check that you get the
full 12 volts in to one side of the fuse socket and that you
have continuity from the other side of the fuse socket to
pin #8 on the Brown/pink wire of the 9-way black connector
at the BFM.

In my case I was getting variable low voltages at the
relevant pin at the BFM on my car and resistance varied as I
jiggled the wiring harness leading up to the BFM. To prove
that I had a wiring problem, I applied 12 volts directly to
the BFM board corresponding to that pin and the light worked
fine indicating that the fault was upstream of the BFM.

I had to carefully unwind the wrapping around the wiring
harness to find the corroded wire. The harness is kinked at
that point in the picture and no doubt the insulation was
nicked during manufacture of the harness to allow moisture
and air to get in and cause the copper wire to oxidize -
hence high resistance and a dramatic drop in voltage
insufficient to illuminate the bulb.

Good luck! :-)–

In brief, on my '89 XJ6, with low beams, right headlight is not
working. The light itself is fine, and so is the lightbulb
relays/feilure detection module (switched them between the left and
right side to prove. With multimeter I noticed that one of the pins
on the round black connetor to the lamp failure module, has 12 V on
the left (working) side, but 1.4 V on the right. I thought that the
