[xj40] passenger window down

Windows have always worked fine. Yesterday I put the
passenger window down and it will not respond to any method
of putting it up. Tried drivers window controls passenger
door switch and main switch on dash. all other windows
respond. John–

I would remove the door panel, and apply 12 V to the motor, as a
test.

If it’s dead, I’ve got lots,

retainer. the arm rest is the problem, I found the plastic
screw underneath but now I am stuck.I do not see whats
holding it on to access the two screws to release the panel–

John … Try this

1 Pop off the leather covered trim piece under the inside
door handle and remove the screw hidden there.

2 Remove the square plastic trim piece inside the door
handle and remove the screw. Remove the door handle
surround.

3 Remove the wood. It slides out towards the front of the
car. Pull the front of the wood slightly towards you and
gently slide/wiggle it towards the front of the car.

4 Pull up the bottom of the rubber bellows near the front
of the panel. The one that leads to the AC ducts in the
dash. Hidden screw under it.

5 Pop out the push-in connector near the front of the
upper door panel. You can see the head of it with the door
open.

6 Carefully slide the top part of the panel up while
wiggling it until it comes free.

7 Remove the phillips screws under the arm rest. Then pull
the arm rest free.

8 Gently pop off the plastic curtesy light cover on the
rear of the lower door panel. Another hidden screw there.

9 Carefully pop out the push-in connectors along the
bottom of the lower door panel. I have a little tool I use
but you could use a screwdriver. Just wrap it with tape so
it won’t gouge anything. There are probably 6 or so push
connectors along the bottom and front/rear edges of the
panels.

10 unplug the connectors that lead to the wiring in the
door panels.

Here’s the panel removal tool I saw Edd China using on
‘‘heeler Dealer’’. I had to rush out and buy one (Harbor
Freight I think) and I LOVE IT!

The top of the arm rest can be removed with a sharp knock
rearward.

John …

OK, my step number one should have said remove leather
covered trim piece in the arm rest, not the door handle.
Sorry my fault.

The piece is right where the cutout is in the arm rest.
Where you grab to pull the door closed.

you can use a flat bladed screwdriver to pop it upwards.
It’s held in by friction fit.–

ok the door panel is off and as you suggested I am going to
give it 12 volts to check the motor. How much more do I have
to take off to see the motor?–
