[xj40] Radio dead but tape works

I recently purchased a 93 XJ6. With 136,000 miles on it this car
runs and drives better than a lot of new cars. Smooth & quiet. It
has a couple of minor problems, one of which is the radio. First,
you have to enter the security code each and every time you start
the car. It is OK until you shut it off again. Once you enter the
security code the display reads 87.7 fm but there is no sound and
none of the buttons on the radio do anything at all. I thought the
whole unit was dead until reading in the forums about possible
micro switch hang up in the tape deck. So I found an old tape and
to my surprise the tape deck works just fine and overall sounds
good. As long as the tape is in the buttons on the radio associated
with tape operation seem to work fine. As soon as you pop the tape
out the radio reads 87.7 fm and everything is dead again. I have
been reading about how much work is involved to install new systems
and if anyone knows what may be wrong with the existing radio I
prefer to keep it. Any ideas??–

It’s loseing it’s positive feed in standby. someone here can
provide the diagrams I am sure. Not a big problem. If you don’t get
a reply soon, a) I am shocked, b) i’ll try to find one for you.
email us, I think you must have a fuse gone or a bad connection
some where.
