[xj40] Rear Left Blinker not Blinking when braking

I have an 1989 xj40 that has a problem with the rear left hand
blinker. When you step on the brake the blinker fails to blink.
When you take your foot off of the brake it blinks again. The Bulb
is not blown. Inside you can here the blink indicator blinking fast
when the foot is on the brake. Any info would be appreciated–

In reply to a message from elaps sent Fri 5 Mar 2004:

I vaguely recall this happening before and the fault was a bad
earth (ground). IIRC, there is an earth point just forward of the
rear light cluster inside the boot. Can’t remember which side (or
if there is one on each side) but if you locate it and clean it up,
the problem may go away.–
