to 88 & 89 owners,
After a year away from the group I have returned to get an answer to a
problem. How do you remove the lap part of the seat belt between the
seat and the tunnel? I have removed the seat cushin, but can’t see how
to remove the lap latch. Help!
thanks

John,
I think you have to remove the seat, then pull the rug back
to get at the bolts.
Same for the retractor on the other side, you have to
remove the seat.

while you are at the dealer on the seat belt lifetime warranty, do two
things: one, buy a set of emergency clips. your shoulder harness can attach
to the clip, inserted into the track just over your shoulder, should the
mechanism fail again. there are two, one for the right and one for the left.
they cost about $25 and tuck into the glove box. the cars were actually
delivered with these, but in many cases they have gone wandering over the
years.
two: what may in fact be happening is that the track along the roofline
along which the retractor is drawn could be wearing out, as opposed to the
take up motor, etc. i had to go through this four times in a year – the
first three times just saying “replace the takeup motor” before we figured
out the track itself was going bad. let them diagnose the condition of the
track as well. it could save you a trip a few months from now.

HELP!!! goes out to the UK jag fans
My seatbelt has jammed up completely, tried to fix - no good.
Has anyone got a drivers side inertia reel seat belt for sale? If
so I will pay for courier delivery the belt end (which clicks into
the stalk) has the ‘D’ hole type not the pointed type.
Its for a 3.2 sov 1991 (H) and must be beige in colour.
I depend upon the the car for work! and as well as being illegal
its dangerous, can anybody help?
I am searching locally but so far no good.
This is a big HELP…

Brett: my apologies if i was not clear. I was offering hopes in my message
that those ordering replacement shoulder harness belts could relatively
quickly get the proper replacement belt.
What advice I was trying to offer is that not only is the motor (winch) that
sits at the base of the pillar covered by the warranty, the track in which
the belt latch runs is also covered. My experience was that after having
Jag replace three or four motors just reflexively, I actually left the car
there for a few days and they found that the track in which the latch runs
over years had gone bad, so it would snag the latch and the motor would be
unable to pull it fully closed. Once they ordered all the parts for the
replacement track, all was well again. So, my message was to have the
dealer order the track, or leave it long enough to check to see if the track
is malfunctioning. The track is also a warranty item.
