[xj40] Servicing Advice

Hi all, first post on 'ere!

Have just bought a 1988 Daimler 3.6 and she’s sweet as a nut.

The service book is plastered in H.R. Owen stamps, and I need to
maintain the standard.

Does anyone know, or can recommend, a Jag specialist garage in
Shropshire?

Cheers–

WSelcome to Jag ownership.

You could try Jaguar themselves, they have list of
authorized repairers.

e.g. look at

Can’t recommend any particular agent though.

Whatever, be prepared for some outrageously expensive
charges. Few people here seem to goto genuine Jaguar agents
unless absolutely necessary.

It’s mostly DIY, or having your own friendly local mechanic

Welcome to the forum and Jag ownership.

Some things, the first two related to your post:

  • Grab a copy of Jaguar World Monthly and scour the ads.

  • Contact (and become a member of) the Jaguar Enthusiast’s
Club (http://www.jec.org.uk). They will point you at your
local regional representative who may be able to advise.

  • Get a Haynes manual. Not perfect (you’ll probably find
errata corrected here) but mostly worthwhile. I got mine
    from Amazon (forget Halfords!)

  • Get the appropriate JDHT CD-ROMs for your car. I says
CD-ROMs (plural) because you’ll find the ‘Supplementary
    Information’ one useful.

  • Use the archive here FIRST before posting. Your question
will almost certainly have been posted and answered already.
The search ‘‘engine’’ is less than perfect (no logical
operators, for example) but serves its purpose.

  • Lastly, the Nigel Thorley book ‘You and your XJ40’ is
entertaining and, for the most part, informative.
