[xj40] Small Thing, but irritating

Dear Listers:
My 1989 Jaguar runs very silently over even the
bumpiest terrain, but I do have one annoying cabin
sound; the click-jiggles of the metal door locks
against their metal surrounds with every car movement.

It seems that the plastic foam-ish patch of padding
inside the door panel, meant to keep the long lock
switch “rods” from moving, have now perished to a
powder, allowing excessive movements and clicking
noises. Those little bits of padding are a kinda
unique looking item, and I just wondered if anyone
else had replaced them with a garden-variety bit of
foam rubber as I anticipate doing?
Thanks

G’day Andrew,
You’re not alone !
Mine does the same thing, although only when all locks are shut.
I dare say that a heftier piece of foam will do the trick.
Cheers,

Hello All,

I guess you all are not alone. Enough complaints were generated
that Jaguar issued an updated part for this problem. There are new
bushings fitted to the lock plungers that protrude from the doors.
This may not be all your noise but Jaguar saw fit to make a new
bushing for them. The part # for the new Bezel is BCC 9790. This
update was made in 1990. I think these are still availiable at the
dealer. Hope this works for your problem.

Regards
