[xj40] tear drop illumination on ac panel

I have been chatting off list to a lister about replacement bulbs for the
tear drops. He has used a pair of superbright LEDS (1.8V Forward current
30ma) code uk19v from maplin.co.uk.

He feels that these are still not that clear in sunlight but if they were
much brighter they could be a nuisance at night. Have others put in brighter
leds? or is this the way to go? The main purpose in doing this is to make
them easier to see in daylight?

Martin,
I used the T1 3/4 (5mm) ultra bright led’s from all electronics.
These are the same size as the original led’s but are clear
and emit a bright red light.

Catalog # LED-42,
3000 mcd (brightness rating)
They are very bright, but somewhat directional, and should be roughed
up a bit before installing them.

They are VERY visible in sunlight, but are not over bright at night.
Maybe because they are red, they don’t seem to stand out
overmuch at night.

Some climate control panels have them plug in, not solder in,
starting in 1990 I think…
