[xj40] Trans light and Selt belts fixed!

Today I thought I should check on my throttle Potentiometer.
I checked the voltage with the throttle closed and it was
.30 volts. The correct voltage for my 90 is between .57 and .62
I set it to .59
The reading on WOT was 4.5 volts which was correct.
So next I put the key in and started it up. This time the Trans
light went off. A sign of true joy.
My trans light was staying on b/c my TPS voltage was too low.
Thank you jag-lovers for your great advice!!!

I also have another fix. Those pesky selt beats. While I was
under the drivers side knee bolster I ran into a box labeled
passenger restraint. I bumped it and heard a clicking noise and
the seat belts started to move. So I disconnected one of the
connections and hooked it back up. Now the seat belts go back to
there full position when the door is closed and back to the front
when the door is open.

Cheers!!–

How did you reset it? I’ve narrowed my problem to something related
near the idle speed. I’m guessing TPS. The guaranteed way to
trigger it is to be in drive at idle, touch the gas a little (as in
inching up to a 4 way stop) and back off the gas quickly. It will
almost always ‘‘THUNK’’ from the rear end, and the tranny light comes
on.–

That is exactly my problem as well. I have checked all the connections to
the transmission and am at the same point you are John. I think it may be
TPS related as well. Something to check this weekend. I will let you know if
it works.
