Xj6 4.2 S1 S2 cylinder head gasket interchange

Good morning everybody!

Just arrived “here” and scanned the forum for a burning question.
A will replace a cylinder head gasket of engine # 7L478583. I got a gasket (set) BHS.024 with conflicting years. The ad said '75 to '79. The sticker on the set says 1983 - 1986, and 1979 - 1986. My vehicle registration says 1973, but it’s not the matching number motor.

Can this fit above engine, and if not what is the difference?

We are using the XJ6 motors in a budget D-Type replica here in South Africa

I believe the split is shown by engine number in the Parts Manual, and takes place at the Fuel Injection change from Carbs. I do not know if they interchange

Hi Tony!
The seller got back to me. Seems it’s only the cam covers which are different, or that part of the head respectively.

check the archives… I vaguely remember something about the wrong head gasket plugging water passages. Or could be a different engine all together that I’m thinking about; or just high on crack. (kidding!!)

It’s a crack-thing. You were referring to the single cylider from Jaguar
Let me check the archives.
