XJ6 Series 3 Loss of Engine Power/Limp Mode

An update on my 85 XJ6 Series 3 loss of engine power & stalling problem:

  1. Throttle body butterfly or valve was sticking so I replaced it.
  2. Replaced fuel pump and fuel filter. Fuel filter had muddy petrol in it.
  3. Cleaned MAF Sensor.

Result: Car pulls like crazy, she’s a proper Cat now. I recently also replaced Series 3 Gearbox with Series 1 unit. Me and some Jaguar friends here in Johannesburg, South Africa believe the Series 1 XJ6 box is :muscle:

Thanks,

Don

Don,
Congratulations on your success.
Some of us that have experienced a variety of fuel delivery issues over the years have added aftermarket inline fuel filters between the fuel tanks and the fuel changeover valve to protect that valve and the fuel pump from the inevitable fuel tank debris. The attached picture shows the arrangement in my former 1984 XJ6 Vanden Plas.
It is also a good idea to remove, inspect, and replace the filter screens inside the tanks that are at the bottom of the fuel pickup tube. Sometimes they are torn, sometimes they are missing.

He attended, simultaneously, to three different issues, Davidbrien - it’s not given which one was the problem…so…
