XJ8/R 1998 oil flow diagram with cooler wanted

HI
I am putting together an early XJS and fitting a 1998 4.0 litre XJR engine
I am having to re locate the Oil Filter
Does anyone have a copy of the lubrication diagram or know how the oil galleries work with relation to the cooling pipes
also i saw somewhere that the oils system has a thermostat in it ,is this correct?
Thanks

You could use a 2000-2002 S-Type 4 liter oil sump (AJ28 upper and lower) to relocate the oil filter to front of the engine. The oil cooler is a ‘water-to-oil’ heat-exchanger but I don’t think there is enough clearance for the SC Crank Damper without modification to the water pipe on the cooler.

I am going ‘the other-way’ using the 4.0 S-Type block for a 2000 XJ8. I am using the AJ27 heads and sump assy on the AJ28 block.

All 4.0 blocks are pretty much the same and can be fitted as AJ26, AJ27 or AJ28 with the correct sump and heads.

Hi Bob
thanks for replying
I am not too worried about the actual cooler but I need to find out what direction the oil flow is from the pump
does it go straight to the cooler and then on to the oil galleries or is there a thermostat the only directs it to the cooler when it gets hot
I am going to use an accumulator and I need to know where to put it
can i put it in the cooler line or in the relocated filter line
if any one has an engine apart I would be really grateful for your help
Regards
