I’m New to this list. I join 2 days ago and feeling great knowing that,
there are lot of people out there that enjoy a jaguar like me.
I have a problem with my 1987 3.6 XJS on the Air Con and cannot find an
answer on how to fix it. The Centre Vent is not getting very much air as
before. I could hear the blowers (both working accordingly to my
setting. (Low, medium, Fast) I could hear the air especially on the
driverside (right hand drive) restricted but not much air is coming out
through the centre ducts. I have taken it to the local jaguar agent and
they permanently block open the sensor at the Centre top vent at the top
behind the dashboard but this does not solve the problem. The
restriction seem to be at the cooling coil. My other problem is the
discharge hose from the Aircon compressor frozen with ice at both end
even at a short distance drive.
As I’m in the tropics, we do not need the heater. I have permenantly
block of the 1/2 hose the goes into the water control valve both the inlet
and outlet as the connector pipe that run from the water pump to the vacum
control valve is slightly corroded.
I called Kirby Palm (thanks you for the time & Patient) and he thinks
it is a Mark III model for the Aircon. Did anybody out there have a
similar problem and found a solution to it?

William,
It sure sounds like your evaporator is frozen.
This is caused by a lack of airflow, or it is freezing up and
blocking the airflow.
You could have a blockage of the air intake(in front of the windshield)
or stuck blend valves.
There is also a flap for inside\outside air that gives a lot more
air flow when its in the inside air position.
I think the system is SUPPOSED to close the outside air flap when
the fan is set on high. The flaps are controlled by the vacuum
valves.
I would start by pulling the trim around the air intakes in the
front of the windshield, and making sure there is nothing clogging
the coils…
There is a temperature sensor mounted on the right side of the
evaporator coil that is supposed to turn the compressor off
when the coil gets too cold.
You have a different system than my car, but part of the problem
could be your modifications…the system is supposed to be able
to warm the air after cooling to lower the humidity.
Since the system is computer controlled, making changes can have
unexpected results…
