XJS build thread-- upgrades and Modern ECU

it seems there a way to save the 6.0L crank ?
ie adding some metal then turn it back down

after looking at @JerryPeck thread

same workshop same workshop cranks repair

similar

or to grind it down, seems to need special machine shop, but this seems quite doable ?
more local experiennce

I ran a bearing on a Standard Vanguard engine back in 1970-80 I had the bearing journal built up then so the tech is quite readily do-able.

Harry has a guy doing it to his V12 XJC its interesting. Jaguar XJC V12 update. Engine issues mean it's back in the workshop for a new fuel injection system - YouTube

yea, my budget for the ENTIRE build is $500
since if it goes to 24 hours of Lemons, that is there limit
and fixing a crank is Cubic $$$
ANY visit to a machine shop is big $$$$
so i will take apart all 3 engines i have and mix and match parts to make a good runner
the 6.0L will contribute the excellent upgraded fuel injection system/ intake-manifold/ heads/ Full Flow oil cooler system, the starter, and a few other parts
It will end up being a 5.3L block/ crank/ con-rods/ pistons /oil-pump/ cam chain etc
it would be nice to have a extra 40HP from the 6.0L , but reliability is the #1 desire right now …

i have had NO LUCK on sourcing new bearings for a reasonable price (~$100)
King bearings said they have No stock and No ETA for another run
rock auto, parts geek, FCP Euro, etc have nothing from any manufacturer

Any ideas? ???

thanks

NICE LINK!
they are doing the same setup as me… with the 6.0L intake, better injectors, trigger wheel, etc
except Harry should put in ETB’s
get rid of those mechanical throttle bodies
too problematic for idle, etc

Did you hear how much it’s costing.? over 10K Sterling.

yea, its a bite on the ass for sure
i have to count up how much i spent… but its under $1200 total —
$500 for the ECU,
$100 for 6.0L intake manifold,
$200 for 12 used injectors
$40 for two new MAP sensors
$100 for two used ETB’s
$120 for used coil packs
$50 for three bmw crank/cam sensors

for the curious
the 6.0L Crank weighs 70lbs
the block with piston liners is 164 lbs

Harry got his XJC V!2 back

Jaguar XJC V12 visits the dyno & the result is more power & it sounds even better!

nice link!
that is awesome… he got 25% MO POWAH with a 72MM throttle body, headers and a ECU upgrade…
and that Emerald ECU is a bit dated too… a pretty primitive ECU
i’m sure the Proteus unit will be even better than the Emerald … and the ETB’s better than the mechanical throttle bodies .
i can’t wait to get my V12 back together, and see how much Mo Powah i get with the 72MM ETB’s and more up-to-date Proteus ECU
Back to the Garage for me!

Think about how many people spent so much time and money on porting and cams when opening up the intake manifolds does so much.

True… and we shall see what a modern ECU with sequential Injection ( instead of batch injection) and some knock sensing do for the V12 too…
and some E85 Corn later in the timeline

FYI
rock auto sells piston rings for the v12 6.0L 1991-1996
its under the hastings piston rings listing –
2M5107 is the rock auto part #, and .040 is the oversize amount
to get the proper "standard " size
and its $55 for 6 cylinders… $110 for a V12
its actually stock number some ford 6 cyl 89MM ring size .

Bonus!!!

the GM ETB is 73MM on the outside throat… will see if that improves performance
