[xk] 140 FHC HOME At Last

In reply to a message from Richard Greene sent Fri 24 Oct 2003:

Richard,
I just got back from Ashville NC and closed to deal to have my 140
painted there. Its worth it to me to tow my 140 the 450 miles for
the paint job.
Your 2500.00 is REALLY cheap for a nice job!!!–

''Take as long as you need, I want a good job ‘’

Richard’s message raises another interesting issue besides price.

I have tried on a number of occassions to provide outstanding
craftsmen with generous time to complete one thing or another, and
the concept seems not to work in the real world.

I have never done this where the individual did not then succomb to
pressure from a follow-on client who was in a rush to make some
deadline or whatever and leave my project untouched until I cranked
up the pressure to complete the job.

Richard,

I was out over the weekend when you posted that you are about 40 miles south
of the VA border in Eastern NC. I’m about 20 miles north of the same
border in Newport News. Depending upon how far east you are, we could be
quite close. Would love to know where you are and possibly pop down for a
visit one weekend.
