[xk] 150 door stays

Hello to all,
Due to the press of business I have fallen well behind (about 300) in
reading my messages from this list so I am joining the thread on the 150
door stays late. I gather that the general feeling is that the door stays
only appeared on later 150s. I am sorry to create more inconsistencies in
Jaguar manufacturing methods, but I have an early 150 fhc (registered 1958
but dispatched 1957) which has, or rather had the door stays. A few years
ago I had a shop do some body work including changing the sills, shut
plates and that part of the body wherein the hinges lie and to which the
door is attached (sorry about such an inarticulate description.) After I
got the car back I found the door stays in amongst the other parts and
noticed that the doors still had the openings for the stays but the
corresponding sheet metal on the body that had been changed did not. The
shop apparently did not want to bother with replacing them. Interestingly
enough, they are a maroon color when the original color of the car was Old
English White. My recollection of them is that they were not straight ,
but I will have to dig them out to night and take a look.
Best regards,
Don Sime

Greetings Donald:

Have been following this thread for awhile, because we have a 1958

fhc, and the lack of door stays on this car is a hazard where we park
it–facing downhill–it is a wonder that there are any door hinges left on
it!! I had a lot of help from this list on the configuration of the pieces,
and you are right in that they are not straight, but appear to have a slight
( 10 degree maybe) kink in them at a point about 4" from the pivot mount,
which is on the ‘A’ post. Is it possible that the doors on your car might
have been switched and replaced with others from a later model 150? From
what I can tell from the literature and information now on hand, the only
actual ‘hole’ other than two mounting bolts for the pivot bracket on the ‘A’
pillar would be in the leading panel of the door itself, through which the
metal stay passes. If I knew more about this &%^#@@* computor of mine, I
could probably send you a photo or two to show the set up—perhaps someone
else can add to all of this—

Thanks Bruce—it was me–but I am not able to retrieve them to forward
them on for some reason—but Donald could contact you directly.
