XK 150 Help, Electrical Experts?

Phil,

Do you have make and model of the altenator, and do you know what wattage the ignition globe is? With that info we should be able to find out if that is the issue. Blipping the throttle will work but shouldn’t really be necessary.

Matt

Sorry Matt but I’ve been away for a few days but yes I agree that it should be solvable.

My previous alternator, of 14 years, worked exactly as you would expect with the light extinguishing immediately on start up. It was a HC CARGO 110770.

The replacement claimed to be the same but when it arrived there was no branding on it but it looked exactly the same.
Ignition bulb is a 2.2w filament.

Phil,

I dug out the paperwork on my altenator, a Bosch unit, and it said the battery/fault light has to be less than 2 watts. I installed a 1.5W globe and had no issues.

Matt

Thanks Matt, very interesting.
Certainly worth a go. Unfortunately l’ve put it all back together now and the under-dash cover was a real struggle :exploding_head:.
Taking the XK on a road trip to Scotland shortly so will have look at trying it on my return.
Appreciate your input :slightly_smiling_face:
