[xk] 150FHC washer bottle

All:
It has been suggested that the TRICO bottle in my '59 FHC is of the
wrong height. Can someone provide proper height of the pickle jar?
Much Thanks
BB

Hi Bruce,

My XK120 came with a 150 Trico bottle so if yours is a smaller one
with a neck like an old style milk bottle…like the 120, I could
probably trade with you…I’m sure someone will give you the
measurement, if not please email me Monday morning, I’ll measure
mine for you.

Have a good weekend.

Bruce,
My jar (original) is 7 inches tall with lid removed.

Referring to someone’s earlier question, mine has 3 spacers, inch long
where the jar support mounts to the body.

Bruce Baysinger. I just went to the shop and measured the Trico jar out of
my 150 FHC and it is 7 3/16" tall and 4 7/8" OD. That is with the lid
off.

Thanks guys for the bottle info. My bottle is 8 1/4", so perhaps the warning
was correct.

List,

I picked up my grill from a plating shop in Fort
Lauderdale two weeks ago. At first, I was only
disappointed with the job done on the rear of the
slates/vanes. There is much pitting and it is
very rough. So rough, I am considering grinding
it off and painting it black. The front at first
seemed perfect. In daylight however, I detected
two obvious flaws in the surface.

Friday, I drove my front and rear bumpers to
Melbourne, Florida for an estimate of repairs and
plating on the way to visit my car. This shop
only does plating for auto restoration. The tour
proved very interesting. High quality pieces
every place I looked. I paid $250. in Ft.
Lauderdale for the grill. I showed the grill to
the Melbourne shop and asked how much they would
have charged me to do the grill and smooth the
rear…they quoted me $250 without knowing the
price I paid. I left the bumpers with them. The
large front bumper, the two rear bumpers and the
long narrow bonnet trim piece will cost me
$810.00 for repair and plating. The place in
Melbourne, FL is Spacecoast Plating. I’ll give
you a critique on the bumpers when I get them
back.

Andre,
Glad to hear the bumpers are out of the back of the van.
It always gives me an added boost to work harder and faster when I
get progress reports that are moving in giant steps… Too bad about
the grille, maybe a heavy coating of something like POR, (which is
advertised to stick to anything and comes in satin and gloss black
and also in silver) will hide the imperfections enough to live
with. That way you can install it and look for another to spend $$$
on to make perfect. Then sell the old one and recupe some of your
expenses. Just a thought.
Looking forward to a positive report on the bumpers.

What color did you decide to go with?

Andre;
Don’t grind off any of the new plating, even if it isn’t to your
licking… it will result in an “opening” that moisture, etc. can invade,
thus creating a bigger rust problem than you have now… If you feel the
need to paint the back black, scratch the surface with a medium fine
sandpaper to give the plated area some “tooth”, but don’t “cut-thru” the
chrome, then pain away.
It’s a sad state of affairs that one doesn’t learn the quality of the
platers work until after the work is done. Given the amount of money
platers charge, I’d take it back an make them do it right… on their
nickel!!

It’s a secret! I have been like a pin ball
with color choice vs. interior.

Imperial Maroon, original but photographs like
purple.
O E White, good for the FL enviornment, but every
car in FL is White.
Shades of Grey and silver, Too dull, I already
drive a 2 tone grey van.
Cotswold Blue, too bright for me.
Carmen Red, Fades too quickly in the FL sun and
I may be too old for this color
Indigo Blue & Black, Too dark for Fl without
A/C.
Claret, Who the heck even knows what color that
was?
BRG, My first one was BRG and I know of others
locally this color.
Peasoup green, my son says “eeuwww”! so do I.

Watch classiccoachworksrs.com for the final
result. I did choose a color and its cast in
aluminum or would that be AL LOU MIN E UM. Watch
the web site.

Charles,

You are correct. I shall do as you recommend.
It is a pain in the Keester to get down there
during their open hours, however.

A wasted youth if one doesn’t know the colour of claret.
The French I think, now insist that we would say cab sav, shiraz
etc.
I suppose the appropiate interior with claret would be deer hide.–
