XK 150S, mechanical Overdrive

I miss the knob on the operating Lever.
Does anyone know where I can get such knob C.14816
Thanks Walter

Hi Walter,

It’s probably going to be difficult to find a correct one (They’re white, aren’t they?). Spae Naur has a fairly large selection of black knobs with brass inserts, imperial thread (I think the thread is 3/8 NC, but it might be Whitworth - pitch is the same, but you’ll need to run a bottoming tap through it to get the thread right).

See J74 and J88 of https://spaenaur.com/pdf/Spaenaur_Catalog_13_Complete.pdf

Failing that, the Coop Baucenter in Affoltern a.A. used to have hard plastic knobs in Metric which you might manage to retap.

Porter’s Original XK 2nd ed shows one car with a black knob.

Try www.mcmaster.com
They have a wide variety of knobs.

Hi Andrew,
Thank you for the helpful replay!
In the extensive Spaenaur-Catalog I found on J74 actually a button with the right dimensions and the correct thread # 135-006. I have placed a corresponding order.

Thanks Bob, I have different photos (including Proter’s Original) of Jag’s with manual Overdrive and have made from these already a dimension Picture.

The knob which is black was briefly made by one company in the UK but only one batch when they sold them all there were no more.
They also had the correct grommet in the carpet.
Stupid me purchased a couple and sold the here in OZ and didn’t keep one for my own car.
So I will be making one aluminum machined up with thread and will take to an engraving company to put “in” “out” on top.
Great details and pics in the ultimate XK restoration book “XK150 Explored” by Viart available from http://www.paulskilleterbooks.co.uk/ or me here in Australia

You may be able to see the knob in the pix. It is black and the grommet can be obtained from London vendor David Manners LTD. Www.davidmanners.co. 41.01 pounds BD 16047
