[xk] Cleaning the top ( hood )

dear friends

With two little ladies I hardly find the time to post to the list, but
I do certainly follow the discussions.

One of my recent problems with my XK 120 DHC was to maintain the new
hood on the car. Those with black hoods can maintain them in a rather
simple way. But mine is french grey which is rather a bright colour. I
tried so many products from so many known and unknown producers but no
product was really satisfactory.

So I got the idea of my wife. And it was by far the best product I
ever used for cleaning the hood: A soap of ox bile ( gall ). It sounds
incredible but it did miracles on the hood of my car! And is by far the
cheapest product.

Best regards

This makes good sence, Zoran.
Bile is one of natures detergents. It is produced in the liver and
flows down a duct into the guts where its function is to begin the
digestion of fats. It does so by decreasing the surface tension of
water so that emulsification begins. This is exactly what happens
when you use washing up liquid to wash up your new baby’s dishes!
The greasy effect of food residue vanishes due to the fat being
emulsified. I have never seen ox bile soap advertised but it
doesn’t surprise me that it is effective.
Good wishes.–

Zoran
Good news for “we” soft top owners. Now to complete the circle, you just
need to collude with Charles “Rivets” Bishop on the commercial arrangements
for locating ample supplies and distributing them to the list members.
Please put me down for a tin, bag, tube, flagon or what ever surrounds this
magic potion.
