Good lord, his word smithing efforts are almost too sad. No mention of
the missing bits. Mid 6 figures!? Indeed.

And ‘’ 2’’ sandcast carbies’’ ?

I must go to the optometrist, they look perfectly standard to me.

They’re just so heavily corroded that the finish looks sandcast.

I asked the seller if he had doors, bonnet, boot, glass etc., to go
with the car, response follows:
Good morning,

No… But I can refer you to an individual that has all that for
this car.

The car comes has the low optioned MC engine , Laycock De
Normanville OD driveline and rear end.
chassis body and factory knock off wheels. everything you see in

Go ahead and laugh at it, but i’ll bet it’s sold over that $15K. I
have a pair of them (both far better projects than that one) and
i’ve been approached by a rod builder to sell one. Evidently, he
has a client that wants to rod-out an XK Jag cp., as I can keep the
drive train. He only wants the complete body on frame. If that 140
is sold, I hope the missing body parts don’t come from my garage
some night.

This has got to be the greatest thread title ever

Being so, it’s no doubt attracted many lurkers from other
lists, like myself. I’m curious, though…are reproduced
body panels available for XKs as they are for E’s, or would
the new owner of this car have to source used doors, etc.?–

Bob W;
Re: 120 Panels…
Let’s put it this way, For Enough Money, ANYTHING
can be reproduced… The point is, when does it become
cheaper (and better!) to just buy another body (or another
complete car)??
The FHC that is the point of the “Turd Polish” title is,
to say the least, a HUGE money pit for ANY restorer, rodder,
etc.

Off the current thread about what can be housed in 55 G drums.
You mention you have a couple of projects including a 140 FHC,
Might the remnants include some radio bits. I am still hunting (15 ys
plus) for correct
knobs for 815666BW my auto box equipped 140 FHC.

A local TV program here , the Gruen Transfer, looks at advertising
and awards the best of the worst with the Gold Plated Turd award…
and believe me there’s a lot of hot contenders.

The award is a gold plated turd trophy.

Perhaps this gentleman is a contender. Much more impressive than
just old concours cups.–

Hi Bob,

See it.# 261245392940 on e-bay. Yes, for $50,000. to $ 65,000. one can
purchase a complete body shell for the 3 XK models & once all the other
parts are gathered up, plus interior, paint & misc., one will end up
with approx. $100,000. worth of car parts, that’s only worth $85,000.

Joel,

Coil springs AND “Heavy Torsion Bars.” I’m particularly intrigued by the MC
package that includes a “Crankshaft Damper”!

That said, I agree that $15K is not out of the realm of possibility.
Probably more like $10K or so, though.

The fact that the asking price does not seem outside the realm of
reality was a bit of a stunner. I happen to have most of the missing
bits for this poor old lump. They are now considered (by y.t.)to be
more desirable than I could have imagined. If the hulk does sell I’ll
offer the wordsmith an opportunity to sell my collection of parts to
help bring it to it’s ‘mid 6 figure’ final value. Or not.
