[xk-engine] 4.2 Liter Cylinder Head?

when looking on the cylinder head of my 420G 4.2Liter engine
it seems that this head does not really match the engine block
with No 7D 59217-8. The new head gasket will match exactly the
contour of the cylinder on the block while on the cylinder
head this looks really odd. The hemispheres with the valves
are only centered in the gasket on cylinder 2 and 5 while the
other hemispheres are out of center.
Is it possible that this cylinder head does not match my motor
block?
Does anybody have some pics of the cylinder block from the
side where I can see the hemispheres? Please mail to:

Hi Klaus,

You are correct, your cylinder head, with its equally spaced combustion
chambers, does not match your block. When Jaguar bored the 3.8 block out to
4.2 liters they needed to stagger the cylinders in order to fit them all in.
Since they used the same old cylinder head they ended up with the
configuration that you see.

In reply to a message from Mike Eck sent Mon 3 Oct 2005:

thanks Mike!
you confirm what a friend told me just now: the cylinder
head just happens to be a bit odd…

Also got a reply from JDHT where I inquired about whether
the head matches my block:
… If the cylinder head is original to the engine in
question, then in our experience the engine number should
also be found stamped at the front end of the central
‘valley’ in the cylinder head.

Thanks to all!
