[xk-engine] Big valves

Do all F/I engines have the bigger valves? or does that start at a
certain year or engine #? Thanks Nick–

Hi Nick,
I believe the bigger valves first started on the series 3 xj6 4.2
motor. I know that the series 3 came with F/I, but I am not sure if
the series 2 had it or not. I am not that familiar with xj6’s. hope
this helps some. Is there anyone else out there who cane help Nick
out.

Where are you Nick?

Fuel injection also began with the Series 3 XJ6 in the UK, which is
why any 4.2 EFI head here has big valves (and ports), whereas in
USA some late Series 2 cars had EFI but not the big valves or
ports. UK heads were also never fitted with the air injection
system on the exhuasts AFAIK.–

It is my recollection, as one who was present when it was under
development, that all production EFI XK engines, including those in
Series 2 US market cars from early 1978, had the big valve head.–

Folks,

…some further confirmation of an unimpeachable source
(Roger Bywater)…

Since I just removed the head from my 1978 Series II XJ-6L
last Sunday, I can state that my early fuel-injected engine
has the ‘‘big’’ 1.875 inch diameter intake valves. While I
am not the original owner, none of the service history I
have from the previous owner indicated any valve work.

Regards to all,
Jerry from Alb’q

PS I’m re-posting this via the Forum as my original message
