[xk-engine] churchill 17 sizing tool

we are making a sizing tool like the churchill 17 and need
to know the diameters necessary to achieve proper clearances.
The archives talks about a v12 size but I do not see anything
for the straight 6.–

Jim,

Sorry, but I have never seen one of these tools myself, and don’t have a
clue on the dimensions. However, do you know about the Tool Loan program
at the JCNA? JCNA acquired a lot of the factory tooling and loans the
tools out to members. There is a sizable deposit required, and a cleanup
fee when you return the tool. They list the tool below, which I believe
is the tool you are looking for:

J17 Rear seal sizing tool XK engines: This tool when used properly
ensures your XK rear oil seal does not leak. Use this and forget about a
modification to your crankshaft or a leak from an improper job.

One option is you can check the tool out and use it. Another option is to
check it out to use as a template to make your own tool, then return the
JCNA tool when you are done.

got the measurement needed to make the j17 sizing tool. I
will post these on forum after we successfully use it so that
others will have it in archives. Otherwise the Joc does rent
one and it is reasonable. Many have used other methods to
accomplish this task of setting the rear main seal and I hope
to not have any leaks this rebuild. Thanks all!–
