[xk-engine] Con rod weight difference

Hello Folks,

Does anyone happen to know the weight difference if any between
a 3.4 liter and a 3.8 liter con rod?

Hmmm… near the same, if not the same, I would think. The early
3.4 rods had ground and polished beams, I can’t remember if 3.8’s
were as well? The S3 XJ6 rods were certainly different, but
interchangable in sets. Let me dig a little.–

Wes, all I have on the shelf is one set of C7917 and one set of
4.2L XJ6 rods. I do not remember what the C7917 set came out of,
but mid 1960’s 3.4L MK2 would be a good guess. Since you could
also get a 3.8L Mk 2, I would think they would be the same. I do
know the crankshaft out of that engine was beefier than the 1950’s
3.4L and 3.8L engines. They have ground beams and are drilled up
the center for positive pressure pin oiling. Is that the same
part number as is on your 3.8L rods and are they ground and
drilled?–

Hi Mike
No difference at all as far as I know! I’m ex works engine builder. All rods sets came out of same stores bin after refurb! Weight tolerance 3grms max overall weight .
Obviously end to end balanced!
