[xk-engine] Head Color

What does the head color represent? Mine is light green, (Duck Egg
Green?)some are gold, some are blue,
what
does it signify?
My engine is a 2.4 liter 8 to 1 compression.–

Hello ?

Head color was a marketing gimmick. If you only had a 2.4 or 3.4,
the head was green, but if you bought the 3.8, you got a blue head,
even though they are identical B type castings. The pumpkin, gold
and silver heads are straight port heads, but a better way to
identify them is the repositioned spark plug in the front of the
valley. B type heads have a core plug up front. The compression
ratio in the engine number refers to the height of the piston domes
fitted to the engine, the heads are the same. Jaguar did not
change the head for the different bore spacing of the 4.2, and the
chambers are offset differently on different cylinders.

So tell me if I have this right, the Duck Egg Green means it is a
2.4 litre engine, (which mine is) and the core plug in front (which
mine has) means it is a straight port head, type ‘‘B’’ and the last #
in the serial # is an 8 which means it is 8 to 1 compression. Is
this good bad or indifferent or just common?–

No, you have a ‘’ B’’ type head. The straight port is the one with
the spark plug in front.

It means that you have the correct engine for your model.

my 1965 3.8 ‘S’ has an unpainted, virgin-aluminum cylinder head, I
assume it must have been worked on in the past and not repainted,
if it ever was painted, which is fine with me, because I really
don’t care about the head being painted! Looks better in silver. A
Green, Orange, or Blue cylinder head must look kind of tacky! A
Gold one would look nice.
