[xk] Head color and quarter light

Can someone provide a clarification as to the proper color for a XK150 3.8
B-type head?

Porter mentions “Metallic dark blue”

Skilleter mentions “Metallic blue”

The paint I bought from a reputable Jaguar parts supplier is what I would
call a light metallic blue. I have “new” head that I will be installing
soon and as along as it is off, I would like to make it correct. There are
no other Xk150 3.8s in the local club to compare it with, so I am turning to
the collective wisdom of the group.

On more thing … in an FHC, how does the frame for the rear quarter light
fasten to the body? I have to replace the glass and want to rechrome the
frame while I am at it. I took a very quick look and there was nothing
obvious. The parts catalog was no help. Before I start exploring by
removing the weather strip or pieces of the interior I would appreciate a
clue.

Thanks in advance!

Brian

Brian,On page 47 of the “Jaguar World, Jaguar 6 Cylinder Engine Overhaul(1948-1986)” book there is a picture of the "B"type-3.8 head with the following comment: " “B"type-3.8 painted a metallescent blue; early heads had a chamfer around the combustion chambers for piston clearance. This was altered in 1962 when the pistons were modified. The correct colour is very difficult to determine as it seems that Jaguar did not keep to the same shade. Picture illustrates original factory finish.” If you can’t find a copy to have a look at I can probably send you a scanned image off line. Regards Col Haywood “Brian A. McIntyre” wrote:

The rear quarter lights are held in by approx. 7 screws, which are accessed
as you have said by removing the rubber weather seal. the ones in the bottom
of the frame on my 150 were rusted so badly that I used a Dremmel to cut
them out.
