[xk] Manifold Depression

John,
Manifold C.2377 is the earlier of the two listed for XK120, and C.4953
superceded it, but the engine no. at which this change occurred is not given
in the 120 parts catalogue.

Since you have both, I’d be curious to know what is the difference between
them. Is it the size of the water passages?

Rob Reilly, Rob I do not know either exactly when the manifold changed but
would be very interested to have the comments from comparison of the two.
But I can say that it was apparently between W1888 and W2968 from
observations, therefore only a fraction of cars.
Now, XK120 owners, anyone able to check the number cast into the
inlet manifold? You can see it in the centre, on the vertical face, under
the centre nut. We will do a survey.
Regards, John Elmgreen

671187 has C4953.

I looked in a Mark VII parts catalogue.
C.4953 is correct for Mark VII engines A1001 to A9999 and B1001 to B2916 with
1.75" carbs.
C.7462 is correct for Mark VII engines B2917 and subsequent with 1.75" carbs.

So it looks like C.2377 was never used on Mark VII, which might possibly help
to pin down the date when it was superceded on XK120, although that could be
making a fatal assumption.

Incidentally in case anyone’s interested, manifold C.8479 was used for special
Mark VII’s with 2" carbs.

681093, Eng # W3166 has C4953 Intake manifold with a “D180” under the C4953.
Does the D180 mean anything?

Glenn, Thanks for the numbers. The D180 I assume is a casting number from
the foundry, but I have not yet established a pattern. To all with 120s,
pls advise the cast / stamped part no. in the centre of the inlet manifold,
and any other stamped or whatever numbers nearby. Another survey.
