[xk] New member - help with XK140 OTS brakes (long)

ML;
There are still one or two around… small private shops, not the
brake store chains, although a few of them still have the old equipment,
especially in small town/rural areas when folks still drive ‘73 Chebby
Pick’em Up trucks ;-}
It would take some shoe leather to find em, tho… But worth the
effort. One might try the small indepenent parts shops that do “in-house”
auto machine work… they aren’t making tons of money to be able to purchase
the “latest and greatest” hi-tech, whiz-bang, computerized stuff, very often
these are the places who bought Midas’ old equipment.
Besides, modern brake linings aren’t asbestos any more…

Charles:
Most of those old shops threw out that equipment when OSHA got hard on
asbestos.
JUST TRY TO FIND someone NOW!!??

Mad Ernie,
Instead of concentrating on the one thing I don’t have–there are many
things I do. Do you want me to get you some clevis pins?

Thanks Bill Bassett. NOW, what don’t you have o/t than those clevis pins?
YOU seem to have EVERYTHING else a Jaguar owner might want?
Best regards,
Mad LUDWIG
Mad Ernie is my better looking, smarter, non Jaguar owning brother.
Appreciate your input!!!

Just BUSTIN William.
Yes, on the clevis pins, say 4 will do it, that will pass through the
shaft that activates the throw-out bearing yoke and the one at the other end.
Will need them sometime in early AUG. Also will need the flex pipes that go from
the air box to the SU flanges on the 52 FHC (qty - 2 _.
By the way, those bronze bushings are so nice they almost look like
jewelry!
Don’t be so sensitive, you know I was trying to give you a “left handed
compliment”!!!

What - and ruin all his fun?

Ernie,
I’m not sensitive, you’ve been here, you know I have thick skin. I’ll get
you some clevis pins. Glad you like the bronze bushings, they should last
longer than either of us.----- Original Message -----

In reply to a message from Dave Shaw sent Mon 14 Jul 2003:

FINAL WRAPUP:

Last night I had my best drive ever. I went about 10 miles, with no
sign of brakes locking up.

The ‘pulling’ problem fixed itself. I adjusted the left front
manually, with no success. Finally,I intentionally went down a long
grade, and applied the brakes all the way down to heat them up.
Part way down, I heard/felt a clunk, and the brakes stopped pulling
to the right. I believe one of the wheel cylinders had frozen
during the 2 years sitting, and the heat freed it up. I’m going for
a solo drive tonight, and intend to take the car to work tomorrow
(of course, this makes my wife nervous - she’s my chase car if
something goes wrong.)

Thanks to everyone for all the valuable input.
