[xk] Power Failure

John Louden,

Any progress on the mysterious electrical failure? These intermittant
failures can be a real challenge to track down.

I checked my ammeter and I think what happened was that I replaced the
entire meter and then opened the old one up and found the shunt burned through. I
don’t seem to have the old one. The “new” one, which is now about forty
years old, has a low resistance across the terminals of course, about ten ohms
as I measure it.

Good luck, and please, once you track it down tell us what you found. It
all adds to the experience database.

I have checked and tightened everything mentioned in the posts -
Many thanks to all for their suggestions - without finding anything
which seemed to be a problem.

I have not opened up the ammeter to inspect the shunt. My
inclination on that procedure is the maxim ‘‘first, do no harm’’.

My strategy at this point is to wait and see if I get a
recurrance. If I do, I hope to have the presence of mind to gather
whatever information the car is giving me in hopes of narrowing the
problem down. If I do have a problem and can find the cause, I’ll
report the findings.

Jaguars were always known for their drama. Now I get to
participate with the rest of you.–
