[xk] Replacing rubber Hardy disc between upper and lower steering c

One of mine is coming apart and I now have a new one ready
to install.
Straight forward job, or anything to pay special attention
to? It looks like a simple 15 min job.
Car is a 150 DHC.–

Not as easy as I thought. Got the 7/32 Allen key out, but
the screws are so tight that I need to get an extender of
some kind to open them. Most of one of the four sides has
broken. The one facing up as the steering wheel is straight
ahead. It was probably replaced in either the 90s or 7-8
years ago. I have the new correct rubber disc, but when I
see the angle change from the upper to lower column, I see
that one: there is such a disc in the first place, and two:
that fitting the new one will be hard. Probably need
somebody in the drivers seat doing what I tell him to do,
so that I can insert and tighten the 4 screws.
Its not the 15 min work that I thought…–

Did it today. Took a good hour. The screws would not open
with the normal Allen key, so I found an extension by means
of a 5’’ copper tube. Then fitting was tricky as the holes
did not align as the angle of the 2 steering columns do not
line up perfectly. Using more Allen keys and fiddling back
and forth, I finally got it in place and tighten things up.
Murphy helped out in getting the steering wheel upside
down, so that had to come off and be moved.
Oh well, now I have a safe Hardy disc. In fact 2 of the
4 ‘‘arms’’ had broken…so it was really time to do it.–
