[xk] temperature

So how cold is it on the rest of the planet today. It is -28
celcius (-18.5 farenheit) here, high is expected to be -24
celcius. Windchill takes it down to -38 celcius. I am
staying inside.–

Sorry, about +22 (63 F) here in Colorado today.

I guess this would be a bad time to tell you that it is 72F and partly
cloudy but dry here in Houston, TX, USA!

Almost 90 degrees, mostly sunny & an 8 ~ 10 kt breeze here in Ft.
Lauderdale. I washed my 120 then gave it it’s weekly romp when I
picked up my wife at the shop where she dropped off her new car to
have it’s windows tinted.
The top virtually never is put up. Driving it back to Sebring next
weekend for the 12 hour and some SVRA events. I do NOT miss my
former home of New Jersey!

Juneau, Alaska (on the Southeast coast): Zero F at night up to perhaps
15-20 F during the day. Clear as a bell. It’s been cold about a week now,
but the end is in sight. Rain by Wednesday.

-18.5! I don’t envy you!

I bet you do miss NJ and all the good times with the Positive Earth
“Bunch”?!
I’ll tell you one thing, this is a winter that has made me think about moving
south and retiring. Been a bad one. By the way, were you bidding on a pair of
SUs a couple of weeks ago on E-bay? Thought I recognized your “call sign”.
We have a couple of people on the list that would be interested in you
Jaguar’s number, ENG., BDY, Grbx, VIN. I know Charles Bishop in TX has a very
extensive list of 120 DHC numbers and John Elmgreen in OZ keeps the numbers
on ALL XKs.
Next time I’m down in Myakka City to visit my sister I’ll give you a call.

Woodstock, CT is melting. It’s been in the 40s for 2 days and we’re
getting down to mud, What an improvement! Glad I live on top of a hill.
E Type, XJS and MOG are having bad battery days, will be in E’town
Tuesday but expect the 120 is having the same problem.

It’s going to be a beautiful Spring & Summer. Jag weather!

Cheers, John M.

ML;
Now that you mention it, I could use Roger’s Gearbox Number and
Build Date (if known)… I have everything else ;-}

John M;
While there is no “scientific” rhyme nor reason that I know for
it, but I have found, in dealing with my personal fleet of cars, that
periods of high humidity, damp weather. etc. will affect the “contact”
between my battery terminals and the lugs on the batteries… A black
oxidation or sometimes a glassine like material, will build up, in addition
to the “normal” battery corrosion.
This material will create a resistance that prevents the
generator/alternator from feeding a charge into the battery.
The battery terminals can look just find on the outside, and be
black as sin on the inside.
The end result is a low or dead battery…
Given your proximity to the wonderful humid salt-air of the eastern
seaboard, It might be worth an hours work to yank the battery terminals and
clean them and the posts on all your batteries… This might solve your OTS’
“one battery going dead” problem as well… if one is receiving it’s charge,
and one isn’t, you will have problems…
I have to clean my posts and terminals about every 4-6 months and
generally replace the terminals about once a year… Obviously, I use the
“replaceable” lead terminals… I buy them by the “card” of ten or so…
Just a thought…

What a thoughtful message. I will visit them all, with brush in hand,
and see if my plight is resolved. After 27 years, I’m not sure replacing
your terminals will help at all, but keep up the good work.

Hi Charles

We keep the most of the cold for ourselves. I was feeling sorry for myself
on the balmy north shore of Lake Ontario when I got an email from a friend a
couple of hundred miles north in Ottawa (our capital for some reason). She
was looking at a wind-chill of -43 C. and a weather warning that exposed
flesh freezes in minutes.
But the XK 120 will be on the road in a few months.
