[xk] Time to rewire my XK150

Good morning all. The wiring on my XK150 is getting frayed and
worn and I’m about to replace the wiring harness. I wondered
how much of the interior trim, engine bay, ect had to be
stripped out to get access to the old harness and install the
new one. I have a copy of ‘Coventry Auto Components’ XK150
wiring diagram for reference. I remember some time ago someone
posted a harness route and wondered if someone could send me a
link to that. It’s a daunting task but I think i’m up to it.
Any advice, tip’s, recommendations from anyone who has replaced
their harness gratefully accepted. A wiring harness from ‘auto
sparks’ has been recommended, any thoughts!!..

Cheers Phil.–

I used the auto sparks harness in my 150 rebuild. The main
issue I had was getting the main loom through the bulkhead,
across and behind the front bulkhead. Its very thick in
places and the access holes are not that generous. I would
think that most/all of the dash needs to be removed. You
will have a perfect idea of the routing when you remove the
existing loom.
One question I have though… when I removed my loom I did
notice that in reality the only real issue with the old one
was the ‘ends’ where the various crimps, ring terminals,
bullets etc had become corroded. The copper cores of the
individual cables were perfect. Its is a great deal of
effort to replace the loom and unless you have real reason
or concerns you should consider some form of repair to the
existing.
Just my opinion.–

I have just done mine…
you will need to take the middle of the dash out and the
dash bottom…
I have done a blog on it and you may get some tips.

I found the best way was to tape up all the ends with
masking tape - if you look at the pictures you will see
what I mean.

Oh yes - when you tape the loose wires all together, also
tape in a wire coat hanger tail or similar that you can use
as a guide - makes it easy then–
