[xk] Very difficult to engage 1st gear

My original, non OD, 140s Moss box has this syndrome.
Reverse and the others are fine.

It also slips out of 2nd every now and again…

Any clues or suggestions much appreciated.–

Peder;
Typically, difficulty in engaging first or reverse is a clutch
problem. That is the clutch is not completely disengaging. It
could be adjustment or it could be a warped clutch disc. Slipping
out of gear is caused by worn or defective syncronizer rings or
worn / damaged detent balls in the shifting mechanism either
indicating a need for a gearbox rebuild.

Roger;
Burned or Bent Shift Forks (or anything involving Shift Fork alignment,
including weak/broken springs under the detent balls) can cause the
transmission to “jump out of gear”…
As you correctly noted, the only recourse is to go thru the gearbox,
correcting the faults…
If ignored, a burned/bent Shift Fork WILL be the root cause for
additional (Read: Expensive) issues…
