[xk] XK 120 bolt on wire wheels?

At a local car show yest. and a guy shows up with a totally
original XK 120 Drophead. Grey with a red interior. Original
paint and interior … Very sweet . Anyways , it had red wire
wheels but with a center hub cap with a Jaguar logo-
definately not a knock off nut. I was just getting ready to
take a picture but got distracted and never did. Period
accessory wheels?–

Robergel made a bolt on wire wheel with large hubcap back in
the period. We have discussed them on this forum and I think
there are some pictures in the album. Presumably one could
put the Jaguar badge from your original disc wheel nave
plate on the Robergel hubcap.
I’ve only seen them chrome plated, not painted.–

always nice to see an XK…Now then, as to ‘‘totally original’’,
that is a tall order and hard to really know, but any
suspected original car should be extensively photographed and
scrutineered with notes and shared with those in this group
who love to work on the ‘‘original’’ puzzle.
As to the car you saw, wire wheel XKs have a halfround metal
bead around the rear wheel arches to fill in the flat indent
space where spats would have fitted. Of course the bead could
be added later.
