My Dad is the legal owner of this car and I would like to
find it.
Last I heard it was outside of Paris but that is all the
info I know.
The story:
My dad bought the car in the late 70s and stored it in
Wisconsin. It was illegally sold and illegally titled in
the south. It then went to California where someone tried
to put it back together. This was about the time my dad
realized it was missing. By the time he found it, it was
being exported to Europe and that was the end of it.
There is an open case on this car in Wisconsin as well as
with the FBI. We still have the original title for the car
in negative form or however they printed it - looks funny
heh.
I would love to find the car, it is the last truly amazing
car my dad owns and we have been looking for it for nearly
30 years!
Thanks for any and all help!–
Jeff

Jeff,
That’s good news. Will the government provide any registration
info on vehicles? Do you think it was ever registered? If the
vehicle was ever insured, do they have a ‘‘master’’ record of who
insured what vehicles?
Could you place a reward on the car. Take out an ad in a Jag
publication that would be seen in France?

Jeff,
With regards to insurance, I was thinking the person who has the
car might have insurance on the vehicle. It appears you now know
the name of the party that has your car.
Good thought about contacting a mag. or newspaper to tell your
story.
Jeff,
Would you provide me with the 4 numbers, I may initiate a search thru french
xk-ers and pass on the information that you are looking for this very car.

Jeff;
The Four Numbers on the Commission Plate (Brass plate) located on the
Firewall on all XK Jaguars…
The Commission Plate is considered the “Birth Certificate”…
The “numbers” are: Chassis, Body, Engine (includes Head, but confirm that
they are both the same) and Gearbox… which also has two locations for it’s
number… on the boss around a “Freeze (Welch) Plug” on the Shifter Top and
at the "forward, upper corner on the right side (as sitting in the vehicle)
of the Cast Iron Gearbox Case.

Jeff
I recently purchased from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust the Jaguar
XK120 In Detail book by Anders Ditlev Clausager.
In Appendix 1: The Alloy - Bodied XK120 Cars, page 225, it show the car
as exists in the USA. Maybe they have some info that may help.

Ahh thank you.
I would provide those numbers if I had them. The car is
number 670113 if that helps - I guess its the 113 alloy body
car??
All I have to go from is the original title - the kind that
sort of look like a photo negative - make sense?
Sorry, the chassis # alone won’t help.
What about ordering a Heritage Certificate from JDHT?
Have a look at https://www.jdht.com
or http://www.classic-car-heritage.com/
Of course no affiliation nor financial interest with any of above.

I think you have to supply all the numbers to the JDHT to get the cert with
all the numbers. They don’t want people making number plates and stamping
parts to match.

When I applied for a JDHT certificate for my car, '53 DHC, all I
provided by them verified that the numbers on the car at production
matched the numbers on the compnnents still on the car, so I was
able to verify that it is an original numbers matching vehicle. I
didn’t know where to look for all the numbers at the time. You
should still be able to get a production certificate with all the
production numbers I would think.sent with the application was the chassis number. THe certifiate
I think they used to do it, but not anymore. I think they ran into a few
instances of people making the numbers match by stamping a new number plate.
That doesn’t necessarily handle the numbers on the components, but you have
to look a lot harder to find those, and people have been known to restamp
those, too. If you send them the numbers, they’ll verify if they match, and
send back a certificate with all that do, but they won’t send you corrected
information if what you send them is incorrect.
Of course, if you have the original number plate, you have all the original
numbers, so this doesn’t prevent fraud, just slows it down a bit in some
instances.

Right. When I applied for the certificate, I sent them the chassis
number from the plate on the firewall. I may have sent them the
other numbers as well. Since it was before yesterday, like 10
years ago, it’s a little foggy. ANyway…the certificate verified
that the numbers on the tag were correct, but it was not until I
dismantled the car that I knew where to look for the actual chassis
number stamped, the tranny number, and then I found the engine
number (in plain sight). Fortunatley it all worked out to prove it
is a numbers matching car. I imagine if numbers are provided to
the Heritage Trust, they would let one know whether they are
genuine or not. The trick is where to find them on the components.–

Over at XKDatapeople are saying I have nothing proving ownership of this car. I’m not sure where any of their facts are coming from. Here is a photo I just took of the original title with my father’s name on the back signed by the owner before him. I’m also including photos of the police report filed in 1981 when the car was reported stolen by my Great Uncle Herman as well as the revised police report from 2005.
All I’m trying to show is that my father was the rightful owner of the car. He was never paid out for his loss - ever.
Please feel free to respond directly to me if you have anything constructive to add.
