[xk] XK120 OTS British RaCing Green interior colour

I am at the point where I need to choose and pay for the
interior. I will most probably go with BAS, as it seems
recommended as most original…

Please let me know if I am correct: according to XK120 in
detail by AD Clausager in case of BRG exterior colour, the
upholstery may be:

Clausager is reporting the actual number of cars produced in
each combination. I see 6 DHCs had biscuit and 6 had red,
otherwise all BRG cars were either suede green or tan.
346 tan and 319 suede green.

Urs Schmid and Bernard Viart agree, and Urs volume 2 has
photos of each from the saleman’s samples.–

All of the accurate statistics on PAINT colours, TRIM colours and their
COMBINATIONs originate from the factory build records.
In the early days, much of this information was collated manually, thus
inevitable errors, but in recent time the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust
computerised all this data, so is now able to do accurate counts and
accurate reports.

The Statistics on XK120 Colours and Colour combinations within the JDHT
publication, “JAGUAR XK120 In Detail” (Clausager) can accordingly, be
considered definitive.

But with respect to BRG this was not a colour offered to XK120 from the
start, but was one three new colours introduced from March 1952, thus is not
an ‘authentic’ colour for 1949-Feb 1952 date-of-manufacture XK120s.

Many thanks gentleman

Do you know where I can see samples of Gunmetal & Fawn
hoods?

I got a sample of ‘tan’ hood material from BAS, I presume
it’s fawn in reality.

Dear Tadek
Come to my place for samples of all hood materials.
I have the original samples.
The Gunmetal in particular was a shiny material - because it was mohair! -
and what I would call mid grey.
Kind regards,
John Elmgreen

Hi Tadek,

Yes, and please if possible, compare with known original
samples. What most people call ‘‘tan’’ nowadays, is what
Jaguar used to call either ‘‘Biscuit’’ or ‘‘Beige’’.

The Jaguar ‘‘Tan’’ that was also very common on the Saloons,
most of which were Black or grey in Europe, especially
Black, is a saturated brown. With the appropriate grain
also called ‘‘Pigskin’’ or ‘‘Pigskin Grain Tan’’. But the same
colour (hue and tone).

I like green on green, that’s what my first car had,
Opalescent Dark Green / Suede Green, but that’s just an
opinion, so it does not count.

I’d go for originality as far as possible, and will do
with the DHC, if I could only get good samples of Birch
Grey (pre-1952) paint and a French Grey hooding material.
I already have the ‘‘Pale Blue’’ Rexine, aka Light Blue and
even later Light Grey. (in the DS 420 Limousines)

Cheers,
