[xk] XK140 dhc top frames, seats

I am looking to purchase a 140 dhc. Have a couple cars under consideration,
but
one is missing its entire top frames and both seats. I haven’t seen either
items for
sale, but have seen seats and tops for almost all the others. Is the top
frame interchangable with any other xk top? Are the seats (bottoms and
backs) interchangable with other XKs?
How about a complet car to begin with-- anyone know a good original or an
older
restoration now for sale? Bob in Louisiana.

Hi Bob
I believe XK 120 DHC and XK 140 DHC top frames are interchangeable and of
course both are pretty scarce. The 120 OTS and the 150s are quite different.
from the 140 DHC. It all depends on your interest in originality of the
model. I’m studying up to redo a 120 DHC top that was modified many years
ago to look rather like a OTS top. I should know more soon. Let me know if
you find a car.

The 120 DHC and 140 DHC hood frames are different although there are a few
common parts. Anyone out there done an exact physical comparison?

John,
No, I haven’t. But once again I will mention to those interested…I have an
original 140 DHC in pieces and would be happy to measure, photograph, fondle
parts in question.

Thanks John, for the info on the 140 dhc top frames. I have gotten a few
leads since
posting my notice. I was kinda hoping I would shoot blanks, as I am really
leaning
towards another car than the one with the missing top. The unavailability of
the top
would have made my choice easier. Not a lot of luck on the 140 seats, but I
don’t
imagine they will be a really big deal though, as I will have many months
(years) to
find them once I finally get the car.
Should you know of any candidate cars, though, I would appreciate hearing
about
them. I am very familiar with Ser. 1 E’s and MK2, S, 420, and other small
sedans,
but jumping into 140s is a new experience. And the first promising car I come
upon
has at least those missing parts. Probably has others, but I am too ignorant
at this
time to know what to look for. Thus, I would really prefer to find a decent
original car
or an older restoration. I don’t want a trailer car, so I can live with
imperfection.
Thanks again for the help. Bob in Louisiana.
