XK120 hood colours

Can anyone perhaps explain the difference between the hood (top) colours of Fawn and Sand. My early steel 120 OTS originally had the hood in Sand. Was this usual on a Bronze car? I don’t even know if Sand is still available…

Do you have Viart’s book? He has printed representations of Sand and Fawn on pages 79 & 82, though he apologizes for the approximation characteristic of the printing process.
Sand looks like good clean dry beach sand.
Fawn is a bit darker, perhaps like a wet beach.

Yes, I have it, Rob. I’ll take a look.
Thanks

I see what you mean, Rob. The Sand is lighter than Fawn. It’s funny that Urs Schmid’s book makes no mention of Sand as a hood colour at all! However, Clausager’s book “XK120 in Detail” lists 174 XK120 OTS in Bronze/Biscuit & Tan with Fawn hoods, and 70 with Sand. I guess he should know, as he had access to all the build records.

I have an early metallic bronze 1951 0TS and decided to go with a black hood. It looks fantastic with the bronze. My car was originally cream with red so originality wasn’t my concern.

Fawn would have more brown and the sand would have more yellow.
