XK6 engine studs nuts and bolts sizes?

Good evening all.

Before i take my engine to bits and clean it. What threads are in the engine?

UNF? UNC? or even Witworth?

No Whitworth, on the later engines: mostly UNF/UNC, with just a few metric fasteners in the later years.

Jaguar is somewhat unique (at least in my experience) in that virtually all the threads tapped in the block are UNF. Most American manufacturers use UNC threads.

All of the studs and the few bolts threaded into the aluminum head of my 3.4L are unc on one end and unf on the other…1/4" and 5/16"…standard engineering practice when it comes to threads in “soft” metals. Try to keep your studs in usable condition upon disassembly…you’ll be glad you did. IIRC, the timing chain tensioner nut is Whitworth.
