[xk8] Car Covers

Has anyone ever purchased a newer California Car Cover? If so,
please offer your thoughts, reviews, etc. I have an older indoor
Cal Cover, but I’m wanting an all weather, protect all cover when I
take the big cat on the road, etc. I would like it to be protected
from all elements, and offer some door ding protection. Thanks
again.

Sincerely,

Scott–

In reply to a message from Scott Pope sent Tue 27 Jan 2009:

I’ve purchased and used a couple of them. I had an outdoor
insulated one for my 65 Mustang as it used to sit outside sometimes
at my Colorado mountain home. It saw both winter (snow) and summer
weather. It held up pretty well, but moisture tends to form between
the car and the cover so it is not a good idea to leave it on too
long. Eventually it developed a tear and the insulation tends to
thin out on the horizontal surfaces. I’d rate it a B to a B+.

I have an indoor cal cover that I use on my VDP and my XK8, but
only at my Phoenix home. And, it only covers the car in the garage
to keep it from getting too dusty during longer idle periods. Of
course it gets no outdoor wear and I’d rate it an A- to A. I’ve had
it for about 4/5 years now with no sign of it wearing out.

It is important to keep the inside/outside carefully separated as
the outside will get dusty/dirty, and you’ll want to keep the
inside that makes contact with the paint clean. I start at one end
and roll the outside of the cover onto itself. These are way too
large to wash effectively.–
